Are energy drinks a healthy way to get going for a practice or competition? I have taken a 5 hour energy shot before a hockey game, yes it improved my concentration but it also made me real dehydrated and jittery. A lot of collegiate athletes today are turning to the 5 hour energy shot, red bull, monsters etc. to give them that extra boost before or during a practice or competition. Just like myself they believe these types of drinks would improve their mental and physical performance. Physicians and nutritionists at www.collegesportsscholarships.com believe these drinks are an unhealthy root to go even though they will give you the instant rush of energy that every athlete wants. The caffeine in these drinks will have you taking the chance of having insomnia, headaches, nervousness, nosebleeds, heart palpitations and elevated blood pressure. Physicians suggest that instead of energy drinks to try sport drinks like Gatorade, Powerade etc. which will keep you hydrated unlike energy drinks that dehydrate you.

yeah i agree completely. i use to take energy supplements like N.O xplode and at first the training effects were good but you start to become dependent on them so it's not something you should do regularly. Also, if you drink a lot of caffeine during the day then drink an energy drink that has probably around 125 mg of caffeine it's not going to be good for you
ReplyDeleteI agree with turning away from energy drinks for sports performance. When I have taken them in the past they made me extremely dehydrated and 9 times out of 10 gave me an extremely bad headache after the sporting event. Gatorade seemed to do a much better job in giving me a boost. Although it may not have been the boost a Red Bull gave me at first, I did not have to deal with the headaches afterward so it seemed like a much better option.
ReplyDeleteA great start. I like the way in which you've connected your blog to your own major and athletic interests!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with not taking energy drinks before or during a sports event. I don't think that anyone should drink them at anytime! Water and a gatorade at half time is the system I have used ever since High school and it has worked very well.
ReplyDeleteI could never take an energy drink if I am doing somthing active. They just make me feel jittery and sometimes dizzy and more thirsty than before I drank them. The best drink for and activer life will always be water!
